 What are CAT tools ?

CAT tools are software applications that support the translation of text from one language to another. More specifically, CAT tools for translation are used for submitting, editing, managing, and storing translations.

ما هي أدوات الترجمة بمساعدة الحاسوب؟

أدوات الترجمة بمساعدة الحاسوب هي تطبيقات برمجية تدعم ترجمة النص من لغة إلى أخرى. وبشكل أكثر تحديدًا، تُستخدم أدوات الترجمة بمساعدة الحاسوب لتقديم الترجمات وتحريرها وإدارتها وتخزينها.

 What is computer-assisted translation (CAT) ?

Computer-assisted translation is the process of using software to help a human translator transfer the meaning of written text from one language to another.

    ما هي الترجمة بمساعدة الحاسوب (CAT)؟

الترجمة بمساعدة الكمبيوتر هي عملية استخدام برنامج لمساعدة المترجم البشري على نقل معنى النص المكتوب من لغة إلى أخرى.

  What does a CAT tool do ?

The translator can input text into the CAT software in the source language and use the interface to divide it into segments—a phrase, sentence, or paragraph. Meanwhile, the software saves each source segment and its corresponding translation as an entry in a database called translation memory. The more content you translate, the more translation matches the software will be able to reuse. This kind of automation significantly speeds up the translation process and ensures consistency with past translations.

يمكن للمترجم إدخال نص في برنامج CAT في اللغة المصدر واستخدام الواجهة لتقسيمه إلى مقاطع - عبارة أو جملة أو فقرة. وفي ذات الوقت، يحفظ البرنامج كل جزء مصدر والترجمة المقابلة له كإدخال في قاعدة بيانات تسمى ذاكرة الترجمة. كلما زاد المحتوى الذي تقوم بترجمته، زادت مطابقة الترجمة التي سيتمكن البرنامج من إعادة استخدامها. يعمل هذا النوع من الأتمتة على تسريع عملية الترجمة بشكل كبير ويضمن الاتساق مع الترجمات السابقة.

difference ?

Machine translation (MT) is the process of using artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically translate content from one language to another without any human input. MT lacks some skills that humans have, like spotting mistakes in the source text or picking up language nuances.

 الترجمة الآلية مقابل الترجمة بمساعدة الكمبيوتر: ما الفرق؟

الترجمة الآلية (MT) هي عملية استخدام الذكاء الاصطناعي (AI) لترجمة المحتوى تلقائيًا من لغة إلى أخرى دون أي تدخل بشري. تفتقر الترجمة الآلية إلى بعض المهارات التي يمتلكها البشر، مثل اكتشاف الأخطاء في النص المصدر أو التقاط الفروق اللغوية الدقيقة.

    Common features of modern CAT tools

CAT tools are similar to text editor programs with added features for translation. Modern CAT tools tend to share several common features:

    Translation memory

A translation memory (TM) is a record of previously created translations that is aligned with source texts.

    Term base (translation glossary)

Term bases, also known as translation glossaries, are databases providing definitions or specific instructions for the use of translated terminology.

    Real-time collaborative teamwork

With a cloud-based CAT tool, you can invite your team of translators, reviewers, managers, customers, or members of other teams, and ask for their input on specific translation documents. Simply pre-translate the content, share it with your chosen collaborators, and you can decide together on aspects like wording or tone of voice—all within the CAT software. You can also coordinate your team and assign tasks with due dates.

  How does a CAT tool for translation work ?

•  The translator opens the source text in a CAT program.
•   The CAT tool splits the text into translation Modules—normally phrases, sentences, or paragraphs. These Modules are also known as segments.
•   The CAT tool displays the source text field and the translation field side by side, one segment after another.
•  The translator types translations into the empty target segments until the translation job is complete.
•  Once a translation segment has been completed, the CAT tool saves the source text and its translation together as a pair in a translation memory. The translator can return to this pair at any time to make changes, and the translation memory will update accordingly.
•  The CAT tool will recognize identical or similar source-text segments and auto-fill the corresponding translations in the target column, drawing from the translation memory.

    كيف تعمل أداة الترجمة بمساعدة الحاسوب (CAT) للترجمة؟

• يقوم المترجم بفتح النص المصدر في برنامج الكات تول.
•  أداة الترجمة بمساعدة الحاسوب (CAT) تقسم النص إلى وحدات ترجمة - عادة عبارات أو جمل أو فقرات. تُعرف هذه الوحدات أيضًا باسم الشرائح.
•  أداة الكات تعرض حقل النص المصدر وحقل الترجمة جنبًا إلى جنب ، مقطعًا تلو الآخر.
•  يقوم المترجم بكتابة الترجمات إلى الأجزاء المستهدفة الفارغة حتى تكتمل مهمة الترجمة.

  An Example of translating a file by a CAT tool (MemoQ)

 Here is a simple file translation. We want to translate the next English word file into Arabic and maintain the same shapes and format. We are using MemoQ CAT tool to do this. This is the format of the English file. Here is the program's icon on the desktop.

إليك ترجمة ملف بسيطة. نريد ترجمة ملف لغته المصدر الإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربية والحفاظ على نفس الأشكال والصيغة. نحن نستخدم أداة MemoQ  ميموكيو للقيام بذلك. هذه هي أيقونة البرنامج على سطح المكتب

This is the format of the English file before translation

 هذا هو تنسيق الملف الإنجليز قبل ترجمته.

After clicking the icon, the following interface will appear. The user presses on the import option in the upper bar, then specify the location of the file (here, it is located on the desktop). The file will be shown as in the following picture.

بعد الضغط على أيقونة البرنامج، ستظهر الواجهة التالية. يضغط المستخدم على خيار الاستيراد (السهم الأسود) في الشريط العلوي، ثم يحدد موقع الملف (هنا، يوجد على سطح المكتب). سيظهر الملف كما في الصورة التالية (السهم الأحمر).

By clicking the file name, the following interface appears. The screen is divided into three sections. The first section on the left is the source file (black arrow) while the middle section is the target translation (the yellow arrow). At the right side, you will find the translation memory where a similar translation is previously produced and translated ever( blue arrow).

من خلال النقر فوق اسم الملف ، تظهر الواجهة التالية. الشاشة مقسمة إلى ثلاثة أقسام. القسم الأول على اليسار هو الملف المصدر (السهم الأسود) بينما القسم الأوسط هو الترجمة الهدف (السهم الأصفر). في الجانب الأيمن ، ستجد ذاكرة الترجمة حيث يتم إنتاج ترجمة مماثلة مسبقًا وترجمتها (السهم الأزرق)

Before delivery of the file, a QA option is run to ensure more consistency between the files and no additional spaces, numbers or words left untranslated.

قبل تسليم الملف ، يتم تشغيل خيار ضمان الجودة لضمان مزيد من الاتساق بين الملفات وعدم ترك مسافات أو أرقام أو كلمات إضافية دون ترجمة

Another option is to run spellcheck to detect typos and spelling errors and correct them.

يتوفر خيار آخر وهو فحص الأخطاء لاكتشاف وتصحيح الأخطاء الاملائية

After having the file translated, spellchecked and QAed, you can submit your file in a MemoQ format mqxlz or a word format by clicking Extract>Stored Path

بعد ترجمة الملف وفحص الأخطاء وضمان الجودة، يمكن تسليم الملف باستخراجه بصيغة يفهمها برنامج ميموكيو تسمى mqxlz أو بصيغة ورد من المسار Extract>Stored Path

This is the file after translation. You will note that it is the same format and shape as the source file.

ويصبح الملف بعد الترجمة كالتالي وتلاحظ أن الملف المترجم له نفس الشكل والصيغة كما الملف المصدر.
